  1. Sean Washington says:

Jordan Peterson has been mischaracterizing and misrepresenting Bill C-16 as some sort of free speech issue when in reality all the bill is assuring is that

1> It adds the words “gender identity or expression” to the Canadian Human Rights Code. This will prevent the federal government and businesses within federal jurisdiction – like banks – from discriminating on the basis of gender identity and gender expression.

2> The second thing that the Bill does is add the words “gender identity or expression” to two sections of the Criminal Code. More specifically It will add the words “gender identity and expression” to section 318(4) of the Code, which defines an identifiable group for the purposes of “advocating genocide” and “the public incitement hatred” It joins colour, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual orientation or mental or physical disability.

3> Bill C-16 also adds “gender identity and expression” to section 718.2(a)(i) of the Criminal Code dealing with sentencing for hate crimes. The provision provides that evidence that an offence is motivated by bias, prejudice or hate can be taken into account by courts in sentencing. The list already includes race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation or any other similar factor.

So all it does in add gender identity to a pre-existing civil rights law that already is in place in Canadian law. It doesn’t punish people from now saying the correct pronouns. Canadians are free to do so and be completely fucking assholes all they want.

However if they want to use “gender expression” as a reason keep you from getting a job or if you commit a violent crime due on someone due to “gender expression” then the new laws have effect, which we both can probably agree are good positive changes to Canadian law.

I suggest you guys give it a listen to see that the sky isn’t falling due to ultra-liberal decent, but rather it’s the work of a religious conservative hack job that is spreading misinformation. As to be expected of those types.
